The purpose of the technical specification IATF 16949 is the development of a quality management system with the aim of emphasizing continuous improvement in preventing errors and reducing waste production phase. IATF 16949 applies to the design phases / new product development, production and, when relevant, installation and service related to the world of automotive products. It is based on the ISO 9000 standard.
The requirements are applicable throughout the production chain. Recently also the vehicle assembly plants are confronted with the IATF 16949.
IATF 16949 is born by the need to avoid the duality between requirements of VDA 6.1 (German Automotive), EAFQ (France), AVQS (Italy) … and QS-9000 (US industry). IATF 16949 is considered favorable to the previous management schemes, which replaces. The current version of the specification is IATF 16949.
ISO 9001: 2015 developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS), which can be used for internal application by organizations, regardless of whether the product or the service provides a public organization or private enterprise, whatever its size, for certification or for contractual purposes.
Depending on the country, it may be called the same standard “ISO 9001” differently adding the name of the body that represent it within the country: UNE-EN-ISO 9001: 2015 (Spain), IRAM-ISO 9001: 2015, etc., accompanied by the year of the last update of the standard.
The ISO 14001 standard is the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS), which helps an organization to identify, prioritize and manage environmental risks, as part of its usual business practices.
The purpose of this International Standard is to provide organizations with a frame of reference to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions, in balance with socioeconomic needs. This standard specifies requirements that allow an organization to achieve the expected results that it has established for its environmental management system.
